Bad actors have crippled Water and Electricity infrastructure so your radio station is the neighborhood information center. You have 2M, an HF rig and temporary antenna 8 to 10 ft up from two trees in the yard, and everyone comes to you for the latest (bringing scarce tidbits of edibles in appreciation). That’s what Field Day Class 1E (emergency power) is all about. Above is a setup in garage with a 20M antenna and generator outside. (Also a home made 2M double J-Pole gain antenna. Pic on request.)
Let’s get serious now, are you going to do Field Day? (4th full weekend in June, Sat 1PM to Sun 1PM) You might want to read the rules, or at least look at pages 25-26 of the ARL 2026 FDay packet. Here’s a little test: What’s wrong with this scenario, is it 1, 2, 3, or four mistakes? I’m on 60 Meters using the center channel (#3) at 5358.5 kc USB with the rig reduced down to 50 Watts output trying to make a Field Day contact calling “CQ Field Day, (callsign), 1E Oklahoma. How many errors there?
Now I’ve switched to 30 Meters, using HRD to run RTTY on 10.151 LSB. Is that one OK? How many mistakes? Answer on the next couple of Wed/Friday Tech & Conspiracy Nets, 7PM on 146.91
RSGB meeting is 7PM at Scott’s hamburgers, downtown Bixby, 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the ‘Party’ room way in back, past the video Game room.
